「Chop-shop」by Marcel Cousins

GALLERY TARGETではオーストラリア人アーティストMarcel Cousinsの個展「Chop-shop」を開催いたします。
「Chop-shop」はスラングで「盗んだ車の部分を売る店」または「盗品を売る店」。この展覧会でCousinsは銀行の書類、記録、おもちゃ、美術史に残された作品や日常品に存在するアイコンやイメージに着目し、それらをサンプリング、借用、盗み、再度文脈付けをして、新しい意味をもたせた作品を展示します。

Marcel Cousins
1972年、メルボルン オーストラリア生まれ。
1998年に国立ヴィクトリア芸術大学卒業後、来日。文部科学省の給費奨学生として東京藝術大学大学院版画科を修了。現在、文部科学省の給費奨学生として多摩美術大学大学院美術研究科に在籍中。彼の作品は国立オーストラリア美術館はじめ国立ヴィクトリア藝術大学、オーストラリアアートバンク、マイケル・バクストンなどにコレクションされている。
GALLERY TARGET is please to announce a solo show by Marcel Cousins, titled Chop-shop. In this exhibition, Cousins deals with contemporary appropriation methods. Chop-shop a slang phrase used for the illegal activities of a business that strips stolen cars so that they can be sold as parts but also refers to business that are involved with the selling of stolen goods in general. The exhibition looks at icons and images from bank notes, documents, toys, images from art history and everyday objects. Sampling, borrowing, stealing and re-contextulising theses images and objects to generate new interpretations and meanings.

Marcel Cousins
Born on 1972 in Melboume, Australia.
After graduating from Victorian College of The Arts in 1998, he moved to Japan. With Monbusho scholarship, received Masters of Fine Art in Printmaking from Tokyo National University of Music and Fine Art. Currently he is studying for Doctorate of Philosophy in Fine Art at Tama Art University Tokyo. His works has been exhibited through out galleries in both Australia and Japan. His work is also a part of National Gallery of Australia collection, Victoria College of The Arts collection, Art Bank Australia collection, Michael Buxton collection and much more.
