つぼぼっち展 -Your first TSUBOBOTCHI- 宮下 卓己

GALLERY TARGET はB1Storage にてセラミックアーティスト宮下卓己の個展を開催致します。
1998年生まれの宮下は、子供の頃に遊んだゲームや漫画のキャラクターにインスパイアされた、壺をキャラクター化した作品を制作しています。歴史と伝統のある陶器というメディアをベースに、現代のポップカルチャーを融合させたその作品は、両極にあるそれら二つの日本の文化の中間に位置しています。また、陶芸という身体性や物質性の強いメディアに対し、ゲームや漫画といった非物質的な感性を融合した作品は、時代を象徴するようにリアルとデジタルの間に生まれた作品と言えます。
本展では、自身が「つぼぼっち」と呼ぶキャラクター化された壺作品を大小45点展示致します。
柔和で優しく控えめで、しかしどこか少しの毒気を感じさせる作品は作家自身の世代の人物像が写し取られた姿かもしれません。宮下は「つぼぼっち」は壺の形を借りた自分自身を表現する自画像でもあり、用途とオブジェの両方の要素を持つ壺の形を借りることで、空間に溶け込めるような存在を作り出しています。粘土という半永久的に残る素材を使って、仏像のように見る人の苦しみを和らげ、ポジティブなエネルギーを与え続けたいと話します。

宮下 卓己
1998年東京生まれ。
武蔵野美術大学工芸工業学科クラフト専攻陶磁コースで陶芸を学び、翌年の2022 年に多治見市陶磁器意匠研究所を卒業、その後アーティストである大谷工作室のもとでアシスタントとして働く。2023 年に「土友の墓場展」 (Kaikai Kiki Gallery)、2024 年「GROUP EXHIBITION U33」 (tonoto) などに出展。
"Your first TSUBOBOTCHI" by Takumi Miyashita

GALLERY TARGET will host a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Takumi Miyashita at B1Storage.
Born in 1998, Miyashita creates works that personify vases inspired by the characters from games and manga he enjoyed in childhood. His creations merge the historically rich and traditional medium of ceramics with contemporary pop culture, positioning them at the intersection of two seemingly opposite aspects of Japanese culture. Moreover, his work, which blends the tangible, physical nature of ceramics with the intangible, imaginative elements of games and manga, stands as a symbol of the era, bridging the realms of the real and the digital.
This exhibition will showcase 45 pieces of various sizes from Miyashita’s series of vase characters, which he refers to as “Tsubobocchi.”
Gentle, modest, and softly whimsical, yet tinged with a subtle sense of mischief, these works may reflect the personas of Miyashita’s own generation. The artist describes "Tsubobocchi" as a self-portrait expressed through the form of vases. By adopting the dual nature of vases—both functional and ornamental—he creates entities that seamlessly blend into their surroundings. Using clay, a material that endures for generations, Miyashita aims to craft works that, like Buddhist statues, bring solace to viewers' struggles and continually provide a source of positive energy.

Takumi Miyashita
Born in Tokyo in 1998.
Miyashita studied ceramics in the Ceramics Course of the Craft Design Department at Musashino Art University. In 2022, he graduated from the Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center and subsequently worked as an assistant to the artist Otani Workshop. His notable exhibitions include "Graveyard of Earthen Friends" (Kaikai Kiki Gallery, 2023) and "GROUP EXHIBITION U33" (tonoto, 2024).
