KYNE（キネ）は、1988年生まれ、大学時代に日本画を学び、2006年頃から制作活動を開始した、福岡を拠点とするアーティストです。1980年代の漫画やアイドルのレコード・ジャケットからインスピレーションを受けた、クールな表情の女性を描くことで知られています。 2010年代から次第に知られるようになったKYNEの作品は、アパレルブランドとのコラボレーション、CDジャケットのイラスト、広告などを展開することで、国内外で大きな注目を集めています。2020年から2022年まで福岡市美術館で公開した横13mの壁画<Untitled >も大きな話題となりました。 KYNEが描くのは、一見不愛想で、意志を感じさせる太い眉と目をもつ、シンプルな服装をした女性たちです。"KYNE-girl"と呼ばれる彼女たちは、限られた色数と無駄を削ぎ落とした描法で描かれ、観る者へ強い印象を残します。これは少年時代から興味のあったストリートの文化と、大学で学んだ日本画、1980年代の文化など、さまざまなエッセンスが組み合わさってできたもので、その誰にもなびくことのなさそうな意志のある女性像は、今や現代を象徴するアイコン的な存在となっています。 KYNEの国内初となる美術館での大規模個展として開催する本展は、巨大な新作壁画を含む、絵画、版画、ライトボックス、立体、ドローイングなど、約150点を一挙に公開します。タイトルの「ADAPTATION（アダプテーション）」とは、生物が環境に適応するために変化することをさす言葉です。 KYNEはどのような戦略で、表現を研ぎ澄ましていったのか、その軌跡をご覧ください。

KYNE is an artist based in Fukuoka, born in 1988, who studied traditional Japanese painting in university and began his creative activities around 2006. KYNE is known for depicting women with cool expressions, inspired by manga and idol record jackets from the 1980s.
Since the 2010s, KYNE's work has gradually gained recognition, garnering significant attention both domestically and internationally through collaborations with apparel brands, illustrations for CD jackets, advertisements, and more. The 13-meter-wide mural "Untitled", was on view at FUKUOKA ART MUSEUM from 2020 to 2022, which became a major talking point.
KYNE's artworks depict women with thick eyebrows and eyes that initially appear unfriendly yet convey a sense of determination, dressed in simple attire. Referred to as "KYNE-girls," they are portrayed using a limited color palette and a style that strips away excess, leaving a strong impression on viewers. This portrayal is a combination of various influences, including street culture that fascinated them since childhood, traditional Japanese painting studied in university, and the culture of the 1980s. The image of these resolute women, seemingly unaffected by anyone else's opinions, has now become an iconic representation of contemporary times.
This exhibition, KYNE's first major solo exhibition in Japan held at a museum, showcases approximately 150 works, including paintings, prints, lightboxes, sculptures, drawings, and a massive new mural. Titled "ADAPTATION," the exhibition explores the concept of organisms evolving to adapt to their environment.
